STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

  • Johnson & Wales University, 2022

    Current Role: Manager in Training

“My start at Compass Group was through the FOH MIT Program. During this time, I have been with Rapport Guest Services at the Accenture office in NYC. I can confidently say that Rapport has accelerated my knowledge in becoming a well-rounded worker. The Manager in Training Program provided me with a variety of tools that set me up for success early on in my career. It allows you to make different connections, learn more about the different operations in the workplace environment, and essentially create a top-notch hospitality experience. As a team here at Rapport, we strive to set ourselves apart from the "normal" and go above and beyond to create an unforgettable experience.”

  • Johnson & Wales University, 2022

    Current Role: Manager in Training

“As I was finishing my Freshman year at Johnson & Wales University, I attended an Internship and Job Fair that was on the Harborside Campus. I was very excited, as this was my first opportunity to meet with representatives from various companies related to my field of study. I walked amongst the many tables that were set up, looking at brochures and hoping that I would not only obtain a summer internship, but find a company where I would thrive. It was here that I met Ms. Emily Peterson, who was representing Compass Group. As we spoke, I became extremely interested in all aspects of this company. I loved their philosophy about food, and their mission to bring platinum service to their clients. I knew that this was a company that held the same ideals and values as me and could help me develop to my fullest potential.

I was placed as an intern at the cafe of White & Case Law Firm in New York City. It was truly an amazing experience, where I met my “work family”. I was so thrilled each day to serve delicious food to great people and to work with such passionate coworkers. After my internship was finished, I returned to school to complete my degree. Upon graduation, I was offered and accepted a position in the Manager in Training Program. I am so beyond excited to work for this company and I cannot wait to see how my career flourishes.”

  • Appalachian State University, 2018

    Current Role: Category Program Manager

“My start with Compass Group was interning with the Campus Recruiting team and later with the Sustainability Team at Foodbuy. These initial experiences exposed me to the vast opportunities within the Compass Group Family. Throughout these internships, I developed a greater understanding of the impact of Compass Group on our communities, connected with many leaders within the organization, and gained the confidence to begin my professional career. I am so grateful for my internship experiences, which highlighted that the opportunities to learn and grow with Compass Group are endless!”

  • Johnson & Wales University, 2023

  • Johnson & Wales University, 2022

    Current Role: Manager in Training

“I joined Flik Hospitality in May 2022, after attending the Johnson and Wales University career fair and applying for a Manager in Training position. When I was hired, Flik was outstanding with being able to place me where I wanted to be, doing what I wanted to do. Since then, many chances have presented themselves, allowing for explosive growth right out of college. I started by working for Comcast and have since moved to working in a major airport. Throughout this entire process, I felt that I was listened to and not just shoved into a new role. I also have had great management who have worked on building not just my skillsets, but my confidence too with great feedback. While things have been hectic since moving to the airport, I am extremely happy in my new role and extremely grateful for the chances that Flik has provided me with. Now, my internship is ending, and I am being moved to Managing my own unit in the airport. I am excited to begin my new role with Flik, and I look forward to all the chances that they will provide me in the future.

  • Angelo State University, 2019

    Current Role: Senior Marketing Manager

“The experience as an intern, to MIT, to now has been one of such fulfillment. I consider it a fortune that I stumbled upon the internship opportunity on my college campus. I was mentored by great leaders who leaned into my strengths and helped me develop new ones. I am grateful for the hands-on experience that allowed me to contribute meaningfully. My career progression resulted from talented people throughout my internship and time as an MIT who invested their time in me and were daily examples of what could be possible for me and my career. My internship helped lay the needed foundation, and the MIT program became the frame that the house of my current career is built around. Today I have the fortunate opportunity to help lay the foundation for current and future interns.”

  • Missouri State University, 2017

Current Role: Director of Dining Services

“I started my MIT time with Chartwells HE the semester after I graduated from Missouri State University in 2017. Since Compass was on Missouri State’s Campus with Chartwells, they always had representatives at our Hospitality Career Fairs. I knew working for Compass would be a great opportunity and I had the chance to train at my alma mater.

I loved every part of my MIT experience, especially when given the chance to meet with all the other MIT’s across the US for a week in Charlotte, NC. We had the opportunity to listen to some of those in Senior Leadership positions speak on different topics, something that doesn’t happen a lot in large companies.

At Missouri State during my training, I had the chance to work with other managers in all the different departments, so I gained a wide variety of knowledge, that has helped me as I moved into my own management roles. At times there were things that I knew that other managers, who have been with the company longer than me, hadn’t had the chance to learn yet. Near the end of my MIT experience, I was given the opportunity to travel to help with several different accounts. The last one being Missouri S&T in Rolla, Missouri. Assisting at S&T turned into accepting the position of the Director of Residential Dining there. I spent 3 years as the TJ Dining Hall manager. It was a great first management position with a smaller dining hall, which helped me grow my skills and knowledge even more.

Then last summer I learned that a Residential Dining position had opened back at Missouri State and I knew I had to apply. I was offered that position and have been here ever since. It is great to be back as part of the team with many of the people that had trained me during my MIT experience. I am just over my 5 year mark with the company, I am grateful for all the experiences it has brought me and I cannot wait to see what the future holds!”

  • Eastern Michigan University, 2022

Current Role: Marketing & Sustainability Manager

“When I was an incoming freshman on campus, I knew I was going to need to find an on-campus job. With my previous work experience being in the food service industry, I turned to Dining. An incredible manager, Joe Brothers, interviewed me and after noticing my major, told me about the Student Success Program. I started working at one of EMU's retail locations as a barista and was promoted to student supervisor by the end of the school year. Shortly after my sophomore year began, I was promoted to Payroll Supervisor. I thrived with this type of administrative work and appreciated getting to connect with staff and students in a whole new way. Not even 6 months after being in this role, I applied for the Marketing Internship and started this role in February 2020. While working in food service during the height of the pandemic was at times draining, coming up with fun, innovative ways to do events and elevate the student's experience made it worth it. I quickly saw that the more I became involved with the Student Success program, the more personal and professional development I received. I was able to assist with opening accounts, developing new social strategies, and collecting data from all of our DOC accounts. I am incredibly grateful that what started as looking for a convenient job, turned into finding a company that cares about my development and success.”

  • Plattsburgh State University, 2017

Current Role: Director of Operations & Marketing

“I started working with Compass Group for Chartwells as a student barista at Starbucks at Plattsburgh State University in January 2017. I was graduating college that December and my supervisor at the time mentioned the MIT (Manager in Training) program for Compass Group to me. I applied for the MIT program in October 2017 and was selected for the program.

I started as an MIT in January 2018 with Chartwells Higher Education at Manhattanville College in Purchase NY. During my MIT experience, I spent three months learning the ins and outs of college dining. When my program concluded I applied for an Assistant Catering Manager role at Purchase College in Purchase NY. I started that job in April 2018.

Since the end of my MIT program, I have had the opportunity to take on a few different roles at Purchase College. I started as the Assistant Catering Manager, and shortly after took on an Assistant Director or Dining Services role and supported the Residential Dining Hall program. Most recently I have taken the role of Director of Operations and Marketing.

I started in my current role in July 2021. I have learned so much about food service, managing people, running a business, and of course food! Currently, I have two interns. A Marketing and Social Media intern and an Operations Intern! Hiring interns and watching them grow in love with what we do is amazing! I love having the opportunity to teach what someone once taught me.”
